The University of New Mexico’s Office for Academic Personnel is looking for a dynamic, forward-thinking manager. The Office for Academic Personnel serves as a central service center for administrators, faculty, and graduate assistantship holders regarding academic personnel human resources needs. The Office for Academic Personnel reports to the Senior Vice Provost and works closely with the Provost and the Provost’s Leadership team, the deans of each school/college, branch campus chancellors, school/college Academic Operations Officers, and HR Department staff to resolve issues that affect faculty members and graduate assistantship holders and provide seamless service and support to the University.
Under the direction of the OAP Director, this position is responsible for managing and directing academic human resources activities in the Office for Academic Personnel. Serves as the primary contact for all academic human resources activities and collaborates closely with Academic Affairs and the OAP Director in matters concerning faculty and graduate assistantship holders. This position supports the recruitment, selection, appointment, promotion, retention and oversight of diverse, highly talented academic personnel within academic units on UNM main and branch campuses.
The manager will lead, guide, and supervise a team of HR and Labor Relations professionals and support personnel. The manager will provide collaborative and consultative advice on a variety of issues concerning faculty and graduate employment contracts, interpretation of personnel rules, develop or refine processes that emerge through collective bargaining, and implementation of policies and procedures.
Duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

Oversees the functions of the Office for Academic Personnel (OAP) for academic personnel for main and branch campuses to ensure compliance with university, local, state, and federal policies and regulations as well as collective bargaining agreements,

Supervises OAP staff which typically includes recommendations for hiring, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution,

Collaborates with the OAP Director in the implementation of processes that are aligned with local, state, and federal employment regulations,

Provides guidance and policy interpretation to administrators, school/college and department staff, faculty, and graduate assistantship holders on matters pertaining to academic personnel,

Facilitates and maintains effective communication with campus partners to inform the University community of relevant policies and procedures and to receive feedback from the University community to inform OAP of process improvements,

Responds to inquiries and independently investigates and resolves problems related to academic personnel,

Coordinates and manages data collection and analysis systems to monitor personnel actions, processing efficiency, and ensure data accuracy,

Provides excellent customer service and effectively monitors personnel systems and applications to ensure efficient completion of academic personnel actions,

Assists with the development and implementation of standard operating procedures to support academic personnel actions

Recommends and implements process improvements to enhance transparency and accuracy of personnel processes and information.
