We are seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to provide expert aerospace engineering support to the Structures and Materials Division within the Army’s Aviation Engineering Directorate. In this role, you will utilize both classical structural methodologies and advanced finite element modeling techniques to assess design alternatives, repairs, and redesign efforts, ensuring the structural integrity and airworthiness of all US Army Aircraft. Your focus will be on understanding and applying Airworthiness Qualification Requirements for New Development Aircraft Systems, with familiarity or experience in Tilt Rotor Aircraft considered advantageous.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct standard practice hand calculations for static stress analysis of aircraft and dynamic components to validate and verify structural integrity for new designs, modifications, or repairs.
- Utilize Finite Element Analysis techniques to determine load distributions within aircraft structures.
- Develop structural airworthiness criteria, testing requirements, test plans, flight envelope restrictions, and analyze flight strain/load data.
- Evaluate flight test and laboratory testing data to establish S-N curves, component fatigue lives, and retirement times.
- Review Airworthiness releases, safety of flight messages, and airworthiness evaluations and reports.
- Provide on-site support for structural flight testing.
Requirements:
- Experience with analysis of rotor head (dynamic) components is desirable.
- Proficiency in performing structural analysis of airframe structures.
- Experience in Finite Element Analysis using NASTRAN, FEMAP, or ANSYS.
- Knowledge/experience with structural bench testing, static and fatigue of aircraft structural components.
- Experience in structural flight tests, such as Flight Load Surveys.
- Experience supporting airframe production programs, including MRB and salvage efforts.
- Strong statistical background is desired.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in Aircraft Structural Analysis with a BS in Engineering; 8 years with an MS; 6 years with a PhD.
- Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance.
- Must be a U.S. citizen to be eligible to obtain/maintain a security clearance.
This is a 100% remote support position, requiring proactive collaboration with team members. If you possess a passion for aircraft structural engineering and have a proven track record of ensuring structural integrity and airworthiness in aircraft systems, we encourage you to apply.
