Design Systems Engineer (EDS, 3 in 1 EDM)
Description:
Responsible for coordination of Design and Design Release of Electric Drive Systems (EDS) and Electric Drive Modules (EDM) activities for the assigned product. Ensuring Project timing for base components, sub-system, add-on and integration components. (Is Component DRE facing. Reports to CE)
Accountabilities:
- Co-develop along with CE and ACE in generating the EDM Technical Description
- Lead Design and Release Engineers (DRE’s) in meeting program objectives for their components with respect to cost, weight, performance, quality, manufacturing, serviceability, timing, etc.
- Coordination of Design Release and Validation activities for 3D and EDM Systems Bill of Material according to specific contents and project timeline
- Execute EDM Systems layout configuration activities according to vehicle packaging, serviceability constraints and functional/installation guidelines of single components from DREs
- Execute Simultaneous Engineering activities to ensure BOM-BOP alignment, contributing to product and process standardization
- Guarantee Design activities timing consistency with Project timing, aligning with CE/ACE and DREC/DRE.
- Guide engineers in the development of drawings, DFMEA's, DVP&R's and their use in validating components and systems
- Management of Change Release (CR/CCD/CN) process to ensure technical accuracy & timeliness of implementation
- Guarantee support to EDM wrt vehicle plants for layout/packaging checks and design delivery for production
- Release of EDM Data summary documents
- Support owner's manuals and service manuals approval
- Supply required EDM documentation to support release of required Compliance Procedure and Compliance Reports
- Coordinate system design meetings to review DRE design proposals as required
- Coordinate with ACE on BOM and experimental EDM builds
- Current production product maintenance in terms of defining and supported continuous improvement, cost reduction activities and technical evolution, according to market trends and/or benchmarking activities
- Manage EDM program complexity supporting DRE
- Coordination of Software, Hardware and Calibration releases to ensure compatibility across functional areas
- Development of “Standard Work” and “Engineering Best Practice” templates for engineering design & release processes
- Oversee development of interface control documents (ICDs) to define interfaces between mechanical, electronic and software components
- Lead cost engineering (aka. VA/VE) activities to develop technical solutions to align with program DMC targets
- Manage EDM GIMs ensuring technically sound resolution in a timely fashion; set goals for individual issue managers and issue solvers
- Develop Statement of Work (SOW) documentation for outside services
- Oversee ADVP&R and stack lists to ensure analysis activities are completed in alignment with EDM functional and assembly requirements
- Develop structure & drive conformance for critical project documentation; DVP&R, ADVP&R (incl. stack list), FROP, Release Notes, DRBFM, DRBTR, Test & Analysis Reports, ICDs, HSIs, Drawings, CR/CCD/CN documentation, DFM/A, GIMs, DFMEA, Compliance Reports
Basic Qualifications:
- A minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Physics, Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Computer Engineering, Computer Science from an ABET accredited school or equivalent.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a related field.
- Understanding of System Requirements Engineering required for customer functions within the electric drive systems field.
- Ability to author system/component level requirements.
- Strong interpersonal communication, team/leadership skills/experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in with emphasis in electrical power conversion, electromechanical energy conversion, power electronics, or electrical machines from an ABET accredited school or equivalent.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in a product design and release function.
- Demonstrated working level experience in decomposing intended function into requirements inclusive of many of the following: Electric drive systems, gear train systems, powertrain integration, high voltage electronics, low voltage electronics, motor controls, communication protocols, sensors, and software.
- Demonstrated experience with mechanical system integration of electric drive system hardware and software.
- Working experience in creation and execution of validation plans inclusive of the following: Electric Drive Units, Electric Machines, Inverters and integrated drive systems.
- Critical character traits to ensure success: Action Oriented, Dealing with Ambiguity, Customer Focus, Problem Solving.
- Knowledge of proactive and reactive problem-solving techniques (e.g. root cause analysis, red-x, fishbone diagram, fault tree analysis, etc.) to support issue resolution.
- Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) green belt or higher.

Pay: $40.00 - $45.00 per hour
