Shepard Steel Co, Inc. is looking for an experienced Controller with Construction Accounting Experience. This candidate should have 10+ years of experience in overseeing an accounting department.
Under the direct supervision of the CFO, the Controller will be responsible for all general accounting items, and overseeing the functions of the Accounts Payable Manager and the Human Resources Manager. The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following:

Prepare month end accounting closing including reconciliation of account detail to general ledger balances, book month end accruals, maintain depreciation schedules, etc.
- Assist the CFO in the preparation of the monthly internal statements.
- Prepare required monthly tax returns, including sales & use taxes, IFTA, and highway use taxes.
- Update/open up accounts receivable billing each month.
- Prepare all monthly AIA documents and corresponding documents such as lien waivers, Bill of Sales, any specific documents related to that specific contract for AR. Submit to each customer monthly.
- Follow up on outstanding AR over 60 days.
- Post all Cash Receipts.
- Approve all Positive Pay transactions daily.
- Prepare all accounting closeouts for all contracts. Documents include final lien waivers, financial analysis, Warranty Letters, etc.
- Assist Auditors with any documents needed for the corporate year end audit.
- Work with consultants, and supply them with the proper information, relating to the annual renewal of the commercial insurance program.
- Supply the insurance carrier auditor with appropriate documentation in the completion of the commercial insurance audit.
- Work with consultants in the selection of employee medical insurance program.
- File quarterly taxes including 941, CT 941, FUTA & SUTA
- Prepare all YE reports for PR and Profit-Sharing Plans, including W2-S for employees, all YE filings for both SSCI and the Pension Plan, prepare 1099R’s and 1095C’s to be distributed to the employees.
- Work with the Human Resources Manager with the 401(k) Audit. Work with auditors on all required documents/questions.
Prerequisites:
- Proficient in construction accounting.
- Strong computer skills; competent in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Adobe/Bluebeam.
- Possess and apply a broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures to the completion of difficult assignments.
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment and able to multi-task.
- Strong organizational & communication skills.
