Sr. R&D Engineer

We are seeking a talented and motivated Sr. R&D Engineer specializing in nonferrous metals to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in materials science, metallurgy and process engineering with a focus on aluminum and magnesium production and processing techniques. This role will operate as a consultative product specialist advising clients and our lab on best practices, processes, and specifications.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Utilize advanced data interpretation methods to evaluate new materials, existing products and processes to meet internal and external customer requirements.
- Engage in experimental investigations and modeling of thermal and high temperature mechanisms in aluminum and magnesium alloys fabricated by both conventional and additive manufacturing methods.
- Perform metallographic examinations on various materials to determine grain size, cleanliness, volume percentage of phases and general microstructure evaluation.
- Analyze and interpret data from experimental and production processes to identify trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
- Develop process models and simulations to predict outcomes and guide process improvements.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations related to aluminum and magnesium processing.
- Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations.
- Lead the identification and innovation of new materials for magnesium and aluminum alloys and products, or processes to enable new product development.
- Scale new products or processes into the manufacturing realm, ensuring a clear hand off for critical parameters and processing required to achieve functional product in a reliable manner.
- Interface with potential customers to better understand their needs and convey our capabilities in a clear manner.
- Represent the company as an expert in the field of nonferrous metals, particularly aluminum and magnesium.
- Attend trade shows and conferences to gain increased knowledge of industry and industry-related products.
- Be willing to assist in other activities from time to time that may be requested.
QUALIFICATIONS

- BA or advanced degree in Metallurgical Sciences or Engineering a plus.
- Expertise with aluminum and magnesium required.
- Ability to travel internationally.
- Extensive knowledge of materials science, experimental engineering experience.
- Excellent analytical, computational modeling, problem-solving skills.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities, with the capacity to interact effectively with all levels of the organization.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management capabilities.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Office, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Sharepoint.
