Mechanical Design Engineer

What you will be doing:
- The Mechanical Design Engineer is the project team member responsible for the system/mechanical design and development of Steering technologies.
- Developing/Coordinating steering gear component design for regional applications
- Leading customer communication for mechanical design and development
- Managing mechanical BOM / 2D drawings / 3D math data
- Support program with design studies and changes, information exchange with customers, and leading VAVE activities
- Performing design analysis design tools including DFMEA, DRBFM, FEA, CAE, & other design activities
- Developing test procedures and specifications with the validation team to support/meet customer requirements
- Creating new mechanical/component designs or developing new suppliers
- Managing/Coordinating prototype components and builds to support customer/internal deliveries
- Assuring design for manufacturability and coordinating production readiness with manufacturing engineering team
- Participating in new business pursuit activities for Steering Products (REPS, CEPS, and SBW systems)
- Analyzing customer mechanical/system requirements and preparing GAP analysis
- Negotiating Technical specifications and requirements with customer
- Preparing tech review materials and presenting design proposals to internal and customer teams
- Creating supporting documents, ED&D preparation, & BOM for RFQ activities
- Communication with core mechanical design teams
- Preparing vehicle packaging studies and negotiating designs/tradeoffs with the OEM
- Support warranty part analysis as required to determine root cause
What you will need to be successful:
Essential:
- Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering OR Equivalent Core Education
- 3+ years of automotive chassis systems; Design/Packaging/CAE
- Strong Understanding of vehicle steering systems desired including Rack & Pinion and Rack EPS Systems
Casting, bushing, tie rod, CAD packaging experience preferred
- Background in automotive engineering and chassis systems (steering,braking, suspension) is preferred
- Possesses knowledge of steering and chassis systems and various mechanic/hydraulic principles
- Experience in CATIA v5 is required
- Experience in Teamcenter is preferred
- Ability to analyze NVH performance and complete vibrations analysis
- Proficiency with Microsoft office tools (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Visio, Project) is required

Pay: $105,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
