Key Details:
- Location: Portland, OR or remote location
- Travel: Serve contracts across multiple regions including Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and California. Occasional travel is anticipated, but less than 10% of the time.
- Pay: $85,000-$104,000 annual starting salary, depending on experience with continued growth potential.

Position Overview: As an Energy Research Engineer you will support a wide range of topics for utilities and regional efficiency groups. Your primary tasks will include conducting emerging technology research, product enhancement assessments, analyzing field performance data, policy research and analysis, writing reports, creating and reviewing energy models, and engaging with residential and commercial end-users. This dynamic position requires collaboration with a wide variety of stakeholders ranging from utility program representatives, end users, designers, contractors, manufacturers, and Energy 350 staff.
A typical day may include:
- Performing research analyses using visualization tools (Tableau, Excel, etc.)
- Conducting analyses and research to support efficiency and decarbonization policy approaches
- Creating or reviewing energy models, calculating energy savings, writing technical reports, and reviewing engineering analyses
- Supporting development and continuous improvement of new and existing efficiency programs
- Participating in industry collaboratives and other events or conferences
- Working collaboratively with the Energy 350 team to deliver high-level service to our clients
- Helping to influence energy policy on a program, state, regional and national level.
Qualifications:
We are looking for an engineer with proficiency in energy efficiency in the residential and commercial sectors.
- 3-6 years of engineering experience in mechanical systems and energy efficiency
- Knowledge of the commercial and residential HVAC supply chain, including regional or national market
- Knowledge and experience interacting with contractors or distributors
- Building science knowledge including HVAC design and/or construction administration experience
- Experience with heat pumps for space and/or water heating in the residential and/or commercial sector
- Understanding of regional energy efficiency measures, programs, and policies aimed at the commercial and residential sectors
- Decarbonization/electrification project or program experience
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Project management skills
- Ability to break down complex analyses into easily explainable terms for non-technical audiences
- Solid presentation skills and experience with public speaking
- Undergraduate degree, advanced degrees, and/or other relevant professional experience
