LAS is comprised of Block Scientific (“Block”), Myco Instruments (“MYCO”) and Peripheral Visions, LLC (“PVI”). Block, established over 20 years ago, is a refurbisher of lab equipment, distributor of new and used equipment, seller of consumables and reagents, and a repair and maintenance service provider to the medical lab industry.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Lab Advanced Solutions is seeking a dynamic production technician to work out of our Bellport, New York facility. As a Clinical Lab Analyzer Production Technician Level III, you play a critical role in refurbishing and optimizing clinical laboratory equipment sold by Laboratory Advanced Solutions.
Your expertise lies in diagnosing, repairing, and refurbishing clinical laboratory instruments used in medical and research laboratories. You ensure that these instruments function at their best, contributing to accurate diagnostic results and scientific advancements.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Equipment Refurbishment and Repair:
- Diagnose and Troubleshoot:Identify issues with clinical lab analyzers, including chemistry analyzers, hematology analyzers, immunoassay systems, and other specialized equipment during the refurbishment process.
- Repair and Refurbish:Perform repairs, component replacements, and preventive maintenance on lab instruments. Ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications.
- Calibration and Testing:Calibrate and validate equipment to meet quality standards. Conduct functional tests to verify proper operation.
- Documentation:Maintain detailed records of repairs, parts used, quality control and service history.
Quality Assurance:
- Quality Control: Implement quality control procedures to ensure accurate and reliable results from lab analyzers.
- Adherence to Regulations: Follow regulatory guidelines (such as CLIA, CAP, and ISO) during refurbishment processes.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure safe handling of hazardous materials and adherence to safety protocols.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with Teams: Work closely with managers and other technicians to address equipment issues promptly.
- Effective Communication: Clearly communicate findings, repair status, and recommendations to relevant stakeholders.
- Training and Support: Assist junior technicians and provide training as needed.
Inventory Management:
- Parts Inventory:Maintain an organized inventory of spare parts, consumables, and tools required for repairs.
- Ordering and Procurement:Coordinate with procurement teams to order replacement parts and supplies.
Training:
- Mentorship: Assist junior technicians with more complex refurbishment, repair, and troubleshooting including monitoring and signing off on trainee’s quality and workmanship.
- Onboarding: Guide new hires on the team as they get familiar with Lab Advanced Solutions equipment and processes.
Standardization:
- Standard Operating Procedures:Provide feedback for the establishment and improvement of SOPs.
- Conformity: Review work of junior technicians to ensure work orders are being completed consistently.
Continuous Learning and Skill Development:
- Stay Updated: Keep abreast of technological advancements in clinical lab equipment.
- Attend Training: Participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance technical skills.
- Subject Matter Expert:Ability to serve as go to SME on at least 3 Block Scientific /LAS products.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Candidates must be able to lift, lower, carry, push, pull 1-50 lbs. frequently and 50-100 lbs. occasionally.
- Ability to frequently bend, stoop, twist, turn, crouch, crawl, push, pull, sit, and stand for extended periods of time.
- Candidates must also be able to reach at, above and below shoulder level, flex and extend neck, have good hand and finger dexterity.
- Ability to work in tight spaces.

WHAT YOU OFFER
- Bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering, electronics, or related field ( Master's degree preferred)
- 3-5 years of hands-on experience as a clinical lab analyzer technician.
- Proficiency with instrument models from specified manufacturers such as Abbott, Beckman Coulter, Hitachi, IL, Olympus, Ortho, Roche, Siemens, Sysmex, Thermo Scientific
- Certification as a Clinical Laboratory Instrument Technician (CLIT) preferred
- Beckman/Coulter manufacturer-specific certifications required.
- Proficient user of Microsoft Office
