Job Description Functions as member of critical care transport flight team. Maintains responsibility for care of critically ill or injured patients being transported by the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta flight team and ensures safety of team and patient throughout transport. Executes independent judgment to deliver appropriate care consistent with clinical protocols when contact with a medical physician is not possible. Works within interdisciplinary transport team providing quality patient care services in the air environment. Proactively supports efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and promote a safe environment at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
Experience
Must be in compliance with state continuing education requirements as outlined by Georgia Code 3, 31-11-58.1 and DHR regulations for paramedics
3 years of experience in patient care
Experience as a member of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta ground transport teams

Competencies as defined by department must be completed within 6 months of employment
Must complete operating room rotation and achieve advanced airway competency per Medical Director and maintain these requirements annually through required field or operating room intubations
- Must complete complex ventilatory management competency per Medical Director and maintain through monthly mock codes and annual testing
Must be able to successfully pass the Basic Windows Skill Assessment at 80% or higher rating within 30 days of employment
Job Responsibilities
Participates in air transport or other advanced/leadership duties as assigned by department director or designee.
Learns and performs judgments and skills related to Federal Aviation Administration rules and regulations and industry standards of practice to ensure safe operations in and around aircraft during patient care and general flight operations for self, patient, crew, and other interdisciplinary personnel and passengers.
Demonstrates competencies that incorporate age-specific guidelines, including N = Neonate (less than 30 days), I = Infant (30 days to 1 year), EC = Early Childhood (1-5 years), LC = Late Childhood (5-13 years), A = Adolescent (13-17 years), AD = Adult, and ALL = all ages.
Performs pre-shift briefings with crew and dispatch and debriefing of all missions.
Assists in pre-mission takeoff checklist and assists pilot as needed, e.g., radio, navigation, and visual observation activities.
Meets National Vocational Qualifications and maintains competency when flying at night.
Demonstrates comprehensive and advanced assessment and clinical skills.
Completes advanced competencies as defined by department in both air and ground environments. Completes transport method specific safety education.
May participate in on-call requirements as dictated by organizational needs.
Adheres to physical fitness requirements for rotor or fixed wing providers.
Demonstrates advanced skills and knowledge in respiratory and hemodynamic monitoring and care.
Functions as team leader and assists in delivery of patient care using age and developmentally appropriate interventions according to individual licensure, departmental protocols, and standards of care.
Prioritizes and delivers dependable, effective patient care consistently in a variety of patient situations from common to complex.
Demonstrates the five rights of medication administration within scope of practice.
Manages time effectively and functions independently/autonomously.
Evaluates patient data, responds to interventions, and adjusts plan of care in appropriate, timely manner.
Acts as resource to staff for patient and family education and clinical information.
Demonstrates rapid recognition of subtle deterioration of patient status and intervenes appropriately.
Maintains educational development.
Achieves 75% attendance at staff meetings.
Demonstrates ability to access and follow policies.
Communicates information related to job activities, needs, and responsibilities for assigned shift to appropriate personnel.
Assists in professional development of other staff members by serving as field training officer and/or educational resource.

Maintains and appropriately uses transport equipment, including daily checks and emergency equipment.
