Summary:
THIS POSITION IN ONSITE
Responsible for underwriting residential mortgage loans in accordance with Jumbo, FNMA, FHLMC, NON-QM, FHA and VA internal guidelines ensuring compliance with company and investor standards. Examine loan documentation for accuracy and completeness to ensure loans meet eligibility requirements and to mitigate risk or loss to the company.
Responsibilities:
- Manage individual pipeline daily by completing new underwriting reviews, condition reviews and other underwriting tasks within established turn times.
- Ensure loans are underwritten in accordance with underwriting standards, risk management factors, regulations and within expected timeframes.
- Review and analyze borrower profiles, credit reports, title reports, income documentation and assets, including complex business returns and financials.
- Structure loans according to lender requirements and credit quality.
- Discuss marginal loans with Underwriting Team lead and Sales Manager before suspending or declining file.
- Communicate with Underwriting Team lead to inform of any sales, processing, or customer service issues.
- Communicate with processing, underwriter, loan officers, funders, post-closing, and production managers to provide updates, structuring, counteroffers, documents, and clarification on outstanding conditions. Solve deficiencies identified on loans, to move files forward quickly.
- Review, validate and update loan file data including transaction details, credit liability, income, asset, and property information.
- Monitor changes in regulations and industry that affect underwriting compliance; recommend updates to policies as required
- Stays current on all Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, VA, FHA, selling guide updates, lender letters, bulletins, and announcements.
- Resolve pending issues identified by Post Closing/Loan Delivery team as needed.
- Complete mandatory training assignments as directed
- Performs other mortgage underwriting related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 5 years’ experience underwriting loans (Conventional, FHA, VA, Jumbo. NONQM, Purchase, HELOCS, 2nd’, manufactured homes, COOP’S, condominiums, and PUD’S)
- Expert in Desktop Underwriter (DU) and Loan Product Advisor (LPA)
- Expert level knowledge of overall mortgage lending process, underwriting loan requirements, federal, state, and regulatory requirements/guidelines related to consumer mortgage lending and internal processes, controls, and asset protection.
Endorsements including FHA Direct Endorsement, VA, and SAR endorsements; must have current certifications for any region with state-specific requirements to underwrite loans.
- Expert level knowledge of valid documentation related to the processing consumer mortgage applications (e.g., tax returns, financial statements and records, verification of income and deposits, etc.).
- Familiar with Condo Project Manager, Early Check, Loan Collateral Advisor and CoreLogic’s Loan Safe and Real Quest applications.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment, strong sense of urgency and responsiveness.
- Must be able to work well independently with minimal supervision.
- Detail orientated, highly organized, strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Prior experience using internal data entry systems, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Encompass LOS experience preferred
Education:
- High School or equivalent required.
- Bachelor's degree preferred
