Program: Approved Private School - George Crothers Memorial School
Location: 401 Rutgers Avenue, Swarthmore PA 19081
Schedule: Full-Time, Monday to Friday, 7:45am - 3:00pm, regular school calendar, September through June
Position Description: The George Crothers Memorial School is seeking a full-time classroom assistant to work in our special education program. Position works with students ages 3 through 21 with multiple physical and intellectual disabilities. Responsible for supervision, personal care and individualized instruction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with the facilitation and implementation of teaching procedures in large, small, and individual instruction.
- Implementation of individual Behavior Plans/protocols, with support from BCBA and classroom teacher.
- Ability to use trained crisis prevention and intervention strategies.
- Initiate and follow through with behavioral interventions as designated and demonstrated by the classroom teacher.
- Ability to collect and analyze data to inform programming and instruction for students.
- Participate in rigorous staff development and trainings.
- Ability to assist the teacher in implementing the Individualized Education Program (IEP).
- Ability to maintain current records on the student.
- Ability to reinforce new and existing skills and concepts daily.
- Ability to proactively anticipate the needs of the students.
- Ability to prepare classroom materials when not already available.
- Ability to plan and confer with classroom teacher(s).
- Ability to assist in supervising students during arrival and dismissal.
- Ability to assist in preparation of instructional materials.
- Ability to assist with supervision of field trips.
- Ability to assist in physical care of students including toileting, feeding, and other self-help skills.
- Ability to assist with routine housekeeping.
- Ability to perform other duties as necessary.
- Ability to achieve and maintain all PDE requirements related to a paraprofessional.
- Must be physically able to assist in preventing an escalated student from self-harm or harm to others.
Qualifications/Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED
- Acceptable PA State Police, Child Abuse and FBI Background Clearances
- Experience working with children is preferred
- Behavior management skills
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds, bend, twist and turn
