EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Must meet one of the following requirements:
- Experience in Ophthalmology REQUIRED
- Experience in GI, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Lithrotripsy, etc preferred
- Has successfully completed a nationally accredited educational program for surgical technologists and holds and maintains a certified surgical technologist credential administered by a nationally accredited surgical technologist credentialing organization;
- Provides evidence that the person was employed as a surgical technologist in a healthcare facility for a cumulative period of one year, occurring within the four years immediately prior to the effective date of January 1, 2015;
- Current BLS certification.
- Previous OR experience
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:
- Performs Patient Care Activities.
- Effectively individualizes perioperative preparation and can assist with positioning to meet the needs of the patient and surgeon.
- Assists with proper positioning of patients by protecting nerve and bony provinces, maintains body alignment to ensure vascular flow and unencumbered respiratory ventilation and maintains patient's privacy.
- Ensures physical preparation of the surgical suite, i.e. cleaning, stocking, and replacing supplies.
- Consistently opens sterile supplies onto sterile field using aseptic techniques.
- Consistently ensures the integrity of the sterile field and initiates corrective measures as appropriate.
- Complies with Surgery Center protocol and manufacturers guidelines for use, processing and maintenance of supplies and equipment.
- Appropriately checks equipment for safe working order and effective cleaning prior to use.
- Removes defective instruments and equipment from service and documents specific nature of the problem.
- Sets up sterile table with instruments and solutions needed for each procedure according to Surgery Center standards.
- Scrubs and gloves according to established Surgery Center policy.
- Set-up and test all fluoroscopy equipment according to Surgery Center standards.
- Appropriately identifies all pathology specimens and follows special instructions of the surgeon.
- Appropriately prepares surgical incision and applies post-op dressing per surgeon preference.
- Assists with transport of patients.
- Effectively assists in keeping surgeon's preference cards current by reporting needed changes to circulating nurse and checks cards at case end to assure that updating is complete.
- Properly prepares instruments for return to processing department for decontamination and sterilization.
- Effectively participates as operating room team member to complete room turnover.
- Performs O.R. Duties/Responsibilities.
- Other duties may be assigned
Job Types: Full-time, Per diem
Pay: $45.00 - $55.00 per hour
