JOB DESCRIPTION
Outside Sales Representative
Mission:
The Outside Sales Representative sells and obtains orders for the company's products from existing and
prospective customers through a relationship-based approach, effective management of a designated
sales territory, and physical visits to customer locations. This job position requires extensive travel.
Job Duties:
The Outside Sales Representative customarily and regularly works more than half of his/her working time
away from the company's place of business promoting, selling, and securing orders for, the company's
products from existing and potential customers by engaging in the following duties:
Demonstrates products to, and services and obtains product orders from, existing and
potential customers while assisting them to select those products best suited to their needs.
Prepares and submits orders in accordance with company price lists, company procedures
and product literature.
Establishes new accounts for new customers.
Plans and organizes daily work schedule to call on existing or potential customers.
Calls on existing and prospective customers primarily through making in-person visits and
presentations, but also through phone calls.
Follows up with customers to ensure that the customers are satisfied; contacts customers
regarding other products customers may be interested in buying.
Maintains close contact with customers after sales have been made to resolve issues and
answer relevant questions in order to promote an optimistic environment, positive experience
with the customers.
Provides price information and quotes to customers in accordance with company guidelines.
Liaises between the company and customers for up-to-date pricing, assistance and latest
product launches.
Continuously updates all customers on product modifications, changes, and improvements.
Keeps management informed by submitting activity and results reports.
Monitors competition by gathering current marketplace information on pricing, products, new
products, delivery schedules, merchandising techniques, etc.
Resolves customer complaints by investigating problems; developing solutions; preparing
reports; making recommendations to management.
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops;
reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in
professional societies.
Maintains records on area and customer sales for historical information purposes.
Participates in trade shows and conventions.
Maintains professionalism, diplomacy, understanding, and courtesy to represent the
organization in a good reputation.
Accurately tracks expenses and timely submits reimbursement requests according to
company guidelines.

Education and/or Experience
College or university degree in business or marketing; or two to four years related experience and/or
training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
