We are looking for a Technical Specialist for its Engine, Hybrid and Fuel Cell Powertrain Team. This Technical Specialist - Gasoline Combustion Engines position is an opportunity for the right candidate to experience state-of-the-art powertrain technology and get involved in a wide range of development tasks that move application solutions from concept to production. The Technical Specialist leads a team conducting powertrain testing and supports gasoline powertrain development programs with technical guidance. This individual needs a deep understanding of thermodynamics, combustion fundamentals as well as test methodologies, engine hardware, calibration and control features . This Technical Specialist position requires a highly motivated individual with the eagerness to learn and make a positive contribution.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead technical team on execution of project tasks

Develop team member capabilities through mentorship and guidance

Support team member growth through close interaction as well as periodic performance reviews

Support technical team administratively and ensure application of company core values

Define project scopes, project schedules and test plans

Plan and oversee tests on engine/chassis dynamometer or in application to assess the performance, fuel economy and emissions of new engine and engine system technologies

Support execution of projects in a team environment and provide technical guidance to project team members

Specify test instrumentation and methodologies to meet measurement requirements for engine dynamometer and component bench tests

Conduct detailed data analysis, determine/guide next steps and maintain project timelines

Develop and review project status reports and technical presentations for customers and internal management

Mentor engineering colleagues to help grow the technical expertise in the organization

Participate in customer meetings and support the development of technical project proposals
-
Work closely with design and simulation engineers and provide guidance to help define engine performance related attributes for new engine programs

Work closely with control systems engineers and provide guidance to help define engine performance related control software algorithms for new engine control features

Prepare and present final project reports that provide interpretation of collected data and summarize key technical findings

Support improvement of test methods and procedures

Participate in the development of technical publications

Support and drive initiatives to foster team development and interaction
REQUIREMENTS
-
Bachelors degree in Mechanical/Automotive Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering or related field

10+ years of experience in calibration and/or powertrain development
-
Strong fundamentals in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and internal combustion engines
-
Strong knowledge of SI combustion process
-
Understanding of base engine, aftertreatment and/or hybrid electronic control system strategies, knowledge on software logic implementation and control system functionality

Experience using commercially available calibration and development tools (i.e., ETAS INCA, ATI Vision, Vector CANape/CANalyzer, Matlab/Simulink)

Experience leading technical project teams and mentoring team members

Project leadership experience, analytical problem solving and strong interpersonal skills

Professional communication skills (oral and written English)

Must be a motivated team player ready to perform in fast paced development environment
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

Masters Degree in Engineering

Knowledge of control strategies employed on Bosch and/or GPEC controllers

Knowledge of hybrid powertrain systems

Experience in aftertreatment system calibration

Strong understanding of US emission regulations and certification test procedures

Understanding of US OBD regulations and monitoring approaches
