Minnesota Epilepsy Group is the largest and most comprehensive adult and pediatric epilepsy program in the Midwest. The Medical Receptionist/Front Desk position is responsible for welcoming patients and visitors to MN Epilepsy Group in a warm and friendly manner while helping to prepare for their visit. This includes problem resolution and assisting with paperwork including demographics, insurance information, and collecting co-payments and/or past due balances.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Welcome patients and visitors, in person or by telephone, in a warm, friendly, prompt manner as the first point of contact in the overall patient experience and assist with navigational needs.
- Verify, obtain, enter and update patient demographics, insurance, referring physician, primary care provider, and other required fields as assigned.
- Assist patients with completion of pertinent forms including but not limited to medical history, patient consents and authorizations.
- Collect patient payments for self-pay appointments, co-payments, and outstanding balances
- Answer all incoming phone calls in a timely and efficient manner
- Schedule and cancel appointments as needed.
- Document accurate notes for reach patient phone call and assign messages to appropriate staff members.
- Scan patient paperwork into the electronic health record.
- Maintain adequate supply of patient forms and packets.
- Ensure that the waiting room environment remains safe, clean, quiet and welcoming.
- Manage inventory of necessary office supplies and coordinate reordering.
- Comply with established standards and protocols of MEG goals and objectives including compliance with HIPAA and PHI standards and protocols.
- Other clerical duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
- Previous medical office experience.
- Computer experience, preferably in a Windows environment.
- Ability to operate multi-line phone line.
- Ability to handle a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks based on importance
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
