The Collection and Exhibition Manager is responsible for oversight of the Art Museum’s physical assets, including the care and safety of all artwork (whether DPAM’s collection or works on loan to the museum); installation logistics of all exhibitions; maintaining complete records on all artwork (cataloging, photography, and data management) and exhibitions; and maintaining the building and equipment with the university's facilities team. The Collection and Exhibitions Manager also oversees commitment of financial resources, approving purchases and maintaining financial records associated with the collection. Through writing and speaking this position serves as a public face for the museum.
What You'll Need:
- BA or BFA in museum studies, conservation, arts administration, art history, studio arts, or related field; 3+ years experience in museum registration; knowledge of art history; art conservation principles and basic financial management.
- A valid drivers license
- Knowledge of national & international shipping and customs procedures
- Knowledge of professional standards of care for artworks
- Ability to use conventional and specialized software for office and collections management
- Ability to think creatively about collections management best practices, making equitability, diversity, accessibility, and inclusion central to the museum's collection management polices and practices.
- Knowledge of HVAC and security systems
- Ability to conduct tours and lectures for classes and external groups and other public speaking events.
- Ability to install artworks and framing/matting knowledge is a plus.
Lift 30 lb.; use ladders and power tools safely, drive a scissor lift and moving van to move artwork.Occasional evenings and weekends may be required for programming needs. Expected to attend and participate in local and national professional meetings. May require some travel (very rare).
