Hello prospective PWAT teammates! We are looking for one, possibly two, artist(s) to join our team. As a prerequisite to this job, we need you to have a thorough background/understanding of acrylic paints (the medium we work with). Please submit 3-5 examples of your acrylic painting works, along with your resume, for this listing.
The two jobs we will potentially be staffing are as an Artist Assistant/Leading Stage Artist and Artist Assistant/Leading Stage Artist/Desk Worker. Descriptions/differentiations between these two jobs will be detailed below.
This job is part-time job -- we recommend you having another source of income as you will not be working full time. Even though the job is part-time, we definitely love open availability (kind of an oxymoron, we know).
We teach our paintings in a party atmosphere type of way. That is to say, it is less fine art and more "fun art," as you will often hear working at PWAT. We teach to first time adults that have maybe never painted before and teach them in the designated time slot how to paint the painting chosen for the class. The painting is taught step-by-step, kind of Bob Ross style, and we don't use any technical terms -- making it approachable to first timers. We give the brushes funny names, tell jokes, laugh, and have a good time throughout class. The stage Artist is leading the class through the painting, but they are -- equally importantly -- making sure the class stays lively and that everyone is having a good time. We are BYOB so we encourage our guests to bring snacks and drinks -- the wine helps loosen up guests that might feel nervous about painting for the first time! We have Artist Assistants wandering around the room throughout class, getting the guests more paint, paper towels, etc. but more importantly, helping them on an individual basis when needed (and they are needed a lot!).
If you were an Artist Assistant/Leading Stage Artist, you would start off as an assistant only, and during that time your shifts may be fewer. After about a month or two (or when you feel confident) we would train you to be a Stage Artist, where you would then have both assistant shifts AND Stage Artist shifts (therefore increasing your weekly shifts). For this position you could expect about 2 shifts a week in the first month, and 4-5 shifts a week thereafter (once trained on as a Leading Stage Artist) -- typically these shifts last about 3-4 hours and fall between the hours of 5PM and 10PM Tues-Fri and 11AM-10PM Sat-Sun.
If we were to train you as a Desk Worker as well, you would then have three guaranteed desk shifts a week (spanning the hours of approximately 3PM-10PM Tues-Fri and 4-6 hour shifts between the hours of 11AM-10PM Sat-Sun) and these shifts would last around 5-6 hours in length. You would also still get around 1-2 assistant/stage artist shifts a week. Desk Workers are essentially receptionists that become Artist Assistants towards the second half of their shifts. During the receptionist hours you would be expected to answer the phone, greet customers, inform inquiring customers on what we're all about, sell at home kits and stage art to customers, book customers' seats for public classes, book private parties, and complete small house-keeping tasks throughout your shift.
