Kansas State Board of Healing Arts (KSBHA) is a regulatory Board which provides licensing, regulatory and enforcement jurisdiction over 16 health care professions and licensees throughout the State of Kansas. An Associate Litigation Counsel for the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts reviews and analyzes investigations regarding medical care and treatment and/or conduct issues related to licensed practitioners of the healing arts in Kansas. Currently, there are approximately 29,000 licensees that fall under the jurisdiction of the Board.
Associate Litigation Counsel works closely with a litigation team and with the Board’s Disciplinary Panel in handling complex litigation involving a wide variety of areas that impact the practice of the healing arts in Kansas. The position requires reading and analyzing large amounts of written material quickly and efficiently; conducting sound legal analysis using a variety of statutory practice acts and regulation; proficiency in applying the Kansas Administrative Procedures Act; providing legal counsel to Board members assigned to review investigations involving licensees; negotiate and draft remedial agreements; and litigate causes of action seeking anything from remediation to limitations, suspension, or revocation. This work involves regular consultation with Board investigators and outside agencies, handling scientifically complex litigation at all stages including all discovery and depositions, and representing the Board’s Disciplinary Panel at administrative hearings.
Examples of Work Performed:
- Preparation of disciplinary cases and presentation of cases to the Disciplinary Panel.
- Drafting agreements, motions and memoranda, and detailed pleadings.
- Ongoing consultation with expert from a variety of specialties ad fields
- Acting as lead litigator in a variety of administrative hearings involving the Board’s Disciplinary Panel, including presenting cases to the full Board in both conference and formal hearings.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Graduation from an accredited school of law.
