Job Overview:
The Controller is responsible for performing highly specialized accounting work required to maintain the agency’s general ledger. Working under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller directs and coordinates the daily activities of the Finance staff to ensure the timely and accurate posting, balancing and reconciliation of the general ledger for Chrysalis Center, Chrysalis Center Real Estate Corporation, Chryslais Center Housing Developpment Corporation, and Monarch Property Management Services. The Controller prepares the consolidated monthly financial statements and is also expected to make recommendations to the Chief Financial Officer for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure optimal efficiencies within the department.

Responsibilities:
1. Direct preparation of journal entries and reconciliation of accounts to adhere to month end close process.
2. Ensure accuracy of all bookkeeping tasks; assure timely preparation of consolidated financial statements.
3. Review and approve the posting of all batches including general ledger code verification.
4. Participate in cash management including daily account review, substantiation of accounts payable check processing, and oversight of checking account deposits with timely destruction of physical checks according to department procedures.
5. General oversight of biweekly payroll process and related general ledger posting; act as a back-up to payroll processing.
6. Review and recommend adjustments to account reconciliations; delegate to all Finance staff as appropriate.
7. Review all CCREC, CCHDC and Monarch financial statements, vacancy reports and bank statements monthly to discuss trends and issues with property management.
8. Prepare financial reports for all grants and contracts; assist as needed to ensure timely completion of all reports.
9. Coordinate workflow for annual audit; prepare workpapers and supporting documentation in conjunction with Staff Accountant and other Finance staff as needed.
10. Prepare tax returns and other annual returns as applicable for the agency.
11. Oversee the health and safety, security and condition of the physical areas and equipment used in the Finance office; maintain knowledge of all office equipment.
12. Supervise staff to include work assignments, performance appraisals, coaching, resolving issues and employee discipline; assist in documentation and monitoring of internal controls.
13. Assist in preparation of budgets.
14. Adheres to all Chrysalis Center, Inc.’s policies, procedures and standards at all times.
15. Provides support to the Chief Financial Officer; performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree required, CPA or Master's degree preferred, with eight or more years of progressive supervision and accounting/finance experience, preferably in nonprofits.
2. Expeience in DHMAS, DOC and other State of Connecticut contracts and reproting.
3. Prior experience supervising a staff of three or more employees with coaching, mentoring, and performance management skills required.
4. Audit preparation experience required.
5. Strong verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and customer service skills required.
6. Intermediate to advanced Computer Proficiency. Paylocity and Sage software system knowledge are preferred.
7. Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
8. Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a deadline driven environment.
9. Maintains Valid Drivers’ License and a reliable Vehicle with Current Registration and Insurance.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $83,000.00 - $86,000.00 per year
