Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced PRN (As-Needed) Coding Specialist to join our team.
As a Coding Specialist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate coding of medical records and adherence to regulatory standards.
Duties:
- Assign appropriate medical codes to diagnoses and procedures in compliance with ICD-10 and DRG guidelines
- Review patient medical records for completeness and accuracy
- Communicate with healthcare providers to clarify diagnoses or procedures
- Ensure compliance with all relevant coding regulations and guidelines
- Assist in the resolution of billing discrepancies related to coding
- Responsible for remaining current with latest healthcare technology and coding advice through reading available coding literature, attending assigned education sessions, using prescribed coding tools, and performing internet research.
- Will be assigned projects and duties on a PRN or “as-needed” basis which will cause hours assigned to vary
Skills:
- Current Medical Coding Certification is mandatory – CPC is preferred
- Proficiency in ICD-10, CPT, and medical coding principles; At least one year of experience
- Knowledge of medical terminology, medical office procedures, and medical records management
- Experience in medical collection, medical billing, and healthcare reimbursement processes
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in coding practices
- Experience with computerized encoders and abstracting systems preferred
