Job Summary

Hawthorne Pharmacy & Medical Equipment is looking to hire additional Pharmacy Technicians to join our exceptional teams.

We are looking for a dependable pharmacy technician to process and fill prescriptions. Under the direction of a pharmacist, you will also undertake other tasks to provide excellent customer service and ensure the pharmacy runs smoothly. As a pharmacy technician, you must be detail-oriented and reliable since the job requires a lot of responsibility. You must possess excellent communication skills and an aptitude for using computers. If you are not certified but are interested in a career in pharmacy, please note Hawthorne offers certification courses to its employees on a case-by-case basis.

Main Responsibilities & Duties

Provide technical assistance to the pharmacist in all areas that a non-pharmacist can legally perform.
Greet patients and provide exemplary customer service
Assist pharmacist in providing effective, appropriate, and safe pharmacy service
Assist pharmacist in preparing prescriptions
Sorting, stocking, and labeling medications and monitoring inventory
Handling of legend drugs or devices, including but not limited to, receiving shipments of pharmaceuticals and stocking of shelves and bins
Accepting written prescriptions
Receive verbal requests from patients for available refills
Perform initial interpretation of licensed practitioner orders
Enter patient information into the computer, including drug allergies, accurately and efficiently
Complying with rules, regulations, and procedures to help maintain a clean and safe pharmacy, such as by sterilizing equipment and surfaces
Deliver dispensed meds to a licensed healthcare provider
Ring up prescriptions after a licensed pharmacist has offered counseling
Discard expired returns according to the facility’s policies and procedures
Compound or mix medications and/or prepare IV solutions
Repackage bulk medications.

Professional Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

High School diploma or higher
Pharmacy Technician certification, a plus
1-3 years in a customer service role, retail pharmacy is a plus
Knowledge of basic math: counting, addition, and subtraction
Written and verbal communication skills in English commensurate with college-level education
Valid South Carolina Driver's License
Demonstrate knowledge of Hawthorne Pharmacy’s structure, standards, procedures, and protocols.
Pass drug screening and background check.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

May require prolonged standing.
Able to move up to 25 lbs. (small equipment, supplies, etc.)
Must hear staff and patients on the phone and those served in person and speak clearly to communicate information to patients and staff.
Must adequately read memos, a computer screen, registration forms, and other clinic documents.
Ability to use general office equipment such as a computer, copy machine, telephone, etc.
