Full Job Description

FLSA Status: Exempt

The Director of Nursing-AL is responsible for leading, planning, organizing, staffing, directing, analyzing and evaluating the nursing services of the department, as well as supervising members of the nursing team and others as assigned, in order to provide effective nursing services that meet practice and quality standards in the Assisted Living. Provides or delegates nursing and related services. The Director of Nursing-AL may be assigned to assume the charge responsibilities for the community in the absence of the Administrator/Housing Director. This position may require additional hours of work on evenings and weekends outside of their normal schedule and be on-call for consultation when emergent issues arise in order to insure the safety and proper care of all residents.

KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

1. Provide administrative and clinical leadership for nursing staff to promote the delivery of quality care. Maintain knowledge base of current standards of nursing practice. Develop and revise nursing policies and procedures. Implement care as planned. Provide or delegate provision of health-related services.

2. Develop, revise, monitor, and implement the department budget to promote appropriate utilization of resources. Oversee and adjust the staffing hours based on acuity, census, and established staffing patterns. Negotiate with third-party payers for appropriate service plans.

3. Direct the hiring, evaluation, development, and termination of nursing department associates, including coaching staff that are participating in a succession development plan and adhering to affirmative action requirements.

4. Support and facilitate whole person, client-directed care and services. Work to align training and services to BHS Standards and protocols. Ensure that a staff development program is in place to meet regulatory, clinical and staff needs.

5. Foster a culture of continuous quality improvement. Develop, implement, and evaluate the nursing department quality assurance program. This includes client, family and staff satisfaction; safety and risk management; and strategic planning.

6. Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and activity to provide compliance with all regulations and nursing standards. Stay current with upcoming regulatory changes.

7. Serve as a nursing liaison with other departments, and residents/families. Serve as a liaison with Benedictine, community groups, third party payers, vendors, general public, and other health care providers.

8. Promotes the Benedictine Mission and Core Values of Hospitality, Stewardship, Respect and Justice by bringing the Mission and Core Values into the day-to-day activities of the company.

9. Performs other duties, tasks and/or projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

 Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse, which must be in good standing

 CPR certified

 Two (2) years of RN experience with at least one (1) year in long term care, home care, or related area QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED  Nursing management experience

 Participate in professional organizations KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 Must have excellent interpersonal skills that promote effective communication with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the general public.

 Must be able to read, write and communicate in English.

 Possess the ability to make independent decisions.

 Must be able to plan, implement, evaluate, delegate, and collaborate effectively.

 Have critical thinking skills and the ability to effectively prioritize multiple responsibilities.

LEVEL OF SUPERVISION

Supervision of members of the nursing team and other staff as assigned.
