POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for assisting providers with patient care, clerical, environmental and organizational tasks. Responsible for appointment scheduling and chart management. Provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the clinic services. Conveys a positive image of clinic. Able to completely work independently on the resolution of more varied and complex issues without direct supervision as needed. Escalates issues to Clinical Coordinator, Clinical Manager or Clinical Director.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned, which may include:
Checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room; assisting patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.; collecting patient history; performing screenings per provider guidelines; assisting providers/nurses with various procedures; charting; relaying instructions to patients/families; answering calls and providing pertinent information. Assess and evaluate urgent situations from the scheduling department and provide appropriate direction.
2. Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned, which may include:
Sending/receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.; completing forms/requisitions as needed; scheduling appointments; verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics; managing the charts to ensure information is completed and filed appropriately. Electronically send prescriptions in the EHR (Electronic Health Record) to pharmacies. Schedule surgeries and provide guidance and leadership to others.
3. Fulfills environmental responsibilities as assigned, which may include:
Setting up instruments and equipment according to department protocol; cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control; cleaning sterilizer according to scheduled maintenance program and keeping appropriate records; ordering, sorting, storing supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms.
4. Fulfills organizational responsibilities as assigned, which may include:
Respecting/promoting patient rights; responding appropriately to emergency codes; sharing problems relating to patients and/or staff with immediate supervisors quickly. Serves and protects the physician or health care provider practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements and HIPAA.
5. Any other responsibility as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Education (or substitute experience) required:
- High School degree or GED
- Current BCLS
- Current CCMA
Minimum Experience required:
- 3+ years of MA experience
Travel:
- Ability to travel to and work at various office locations based on staffing needs and schedule
- A valid CA Driver’s license is required
Skills required:
- Skill in performing tasks required and appropriate use of instruments and equipment
- Skill in interpersonal interactions, communication and therapeutic behavior
- Appropriate grammar and scribing skills
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of healthcare field and medical specialty
- Knowledge of specific assisting tasks related to particular medical specialty
- Knowledge of information that must be conveyed to patients and families
- Knowledge of drug calculations, administering medication and electronic sending of prescriptions
Abilities:
- Ability to learn and retain information regarding patient care procedures
- Ability to assess, plan, prioritize and complete delegated tasks
- Ability to schedule surgeries and coordinate with the patient, provider and facilities

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
