Survey Field Technician - Party Chief
Position Description: The Party Chief coordinates the daily activities of their team to maximize efficiency, safety and quality of daily assignments. Extensive knowledge of all common surveying instruments and techniques and leadership skills are essential to assist with the training and development of lesser experienced members of the team. This position can be field or office based, depending on the specific needs of the project and workload balance, and will work closely with project surveyors and other staff to ensure every project is performed to the highest level of quality and reliability. Responsibilities include a combination of the following, but are not limited to:
Field Work: Performs, directly or indirectly (i.e. supervising others), all necessary field production and safety related activities. Selects and uses the most appropriate survey instruments and processes to perform the requested job, including total stations, GPS receivers, levels, LiDAR sensors, etc. to achieve the required field information. Keeps accurate log of all field activities and results, safety forms and permits. Uses gathered project and historical information to appropriately plan and execute the most efficient field operation.
Office Work: Reviews field notes, sketches, photos and field data files to assure project requirements are met.
Training and Operations Support: Provides continuous mentoring, training and assistance to less experienced staff. Oversees and coordinates appropriate maintenance of assigned vehicles, equipment, tools and cleanliness of warehouse spaces. Promotes a sound safety culture based on understanding risks and hazards and taking appropriate action, including daily, weekly and monthly safety meetings and reporting.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Thorough understanding of all common surveying and mapping instruments and technology
- Position requires great flexibility, with the possibility of out-of-town travel as needed by specific projects
- Ability to perform physical work and lift and carry heavy equipment when necessary
- Proficient with total stations, digital leveling, recording field notes and electronic data collection
- FDOT experience and knowledge of their field collection procedures is highly preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 5 years of field experience with at least 2 years in a field leadership position as a Party Chief
- Valid Florida driver’s license and clean driving record
- General understanding of subsurface utility engineering is required
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $35,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
