POSITION TITLE: Farm Hand

Position Summary: This position is responsible for working with and around cows, aiding in the maintenance of their comfort, environment and health. This position keeps up the cleanliness and safety of WDF&B and works effectively in a timely manner.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Prepare cows & equipment for the milking process; free-stall barn walk through

Milk cows efficiently and safely in the milking parlor.

Move all gates into proper position for cows to return to the barn.

Observe herd health; communicate any concerns or issues to management immediately.

Feeds calves per protocol.

Rake any and all manure/urine spots from the sand beds into the aisle.

Clean all aisles in the barn using a skid-steer loader, putting manure into the dump truck or hoop building for future removal.

Groom all beds using the skid-steer attachment.

Communicates with customers and other visitors to the farm in a friendly and welcoming manner.

Assist the herd manager in cleaning all calf quarters:
- Removing bedding and disposing of manure and waste.

Cleaning/washing calf hutches.

Preparing hutches for the arrival of newborns.

Raking and cleaning all common areas around calf quarters.

Familiarity with operating equipment a plus
Supervisory Responsibilities:
No supervisory responsibilities are required for this position.

Qualifications:

18 years of age or older, required

High school diploma or GED preferred but not required.

Experience working with animals, large animals a plus

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made.
While performing the essential functions for this position, the employee is regularly required to work in a hot, moist environment using detergents and cleaners. The employee must be able to stand for long periods of time, bend, reach, carry, stoop, kneel and crouch, crawl and frequently lift or move objects 10-50 pounds numerous times per day. Must be able to prioritize essential tasks, as well as, handle multiple tasks simultaneously throughout the shift.
This position involves work outside and in an open-air building, so extreme changes in temperature should be expected. Direct contact with animals and their feces is part of daily work. As well as loud noises and handling of cleaning chemicals.
