Full Job Description

Animal Urgent Care is currently hiring for our brand new hospital located at 120th and Chambers in the Brighton/Commerce City area. We have an excellent reputation among our veterinary communities in Arvada and Denver, and cannot wait to benefit our new local community. There are all the normal perks to working in ER - great pay, plenty of recharge time away from work, excellent medicine and equipment, and the purpose that drives us every day. In many ways, we are what some people might consider “unique,” though. We are a highly democratic bunch and strive to involve all team members in big (and small) decisions. Our leadership team is comprised of people with experience working on the floor in an ER, and it shows. The current teams in Arvada and Park Hill are comprised of a lot of long-time, loyal teammates who share not only a vision for the practice, but values that allow us to work together in a way that does not allow for workplace cruelty, gossip, or self-centeredness. To put it bluntly: the mean girls don’t last if they make it on board at all. Our goal is to have a happy, healthy, growth-focused group of people who support one another through the trials and tribulations of working in ER veterinary medicine. We are looking to add teammates to our Northeast hospital from all levels of experience, but they simply must possess the soft skills that support our value system. Summary: To provide cage-side treatments to hospitalized and critically ill animals. The technician must be able to work with cats and dogs.

Responsibilities: The responsibilities of the Licensed ER Technician include, but are not limited, to the following activities:

Perform treatments on hospitalized patients including the administration of medications by various routes
Obtain vitals, blood pressure, ECG, and other monitoring parameters
Monitor hydration status, administering CRI’s, setting up IV fluids with multiple lines, etc.
Phlebotomy and basic knowledge of hematology and “normals”
Basic knowledge of anesthetic drugs, protocols, and anesthesia monitoring
Conduct medical record keeping and client communication (particularly in regards to patient updates)
Knowledge of common medications
Place and maintain viability of intravenous catheters
Transfusion therapy including blood typing and cross matching
Feeding tube care and maintenance
Perform CPCR as needed
Apply bandages/splints regularly
Discharge patients
Check patients in and out of the clinic, including taking payments and reviewing/entering charges in EzyVet and SmartFlow

All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS**

Minimum 2 years experience in veterinary surgery and anesthesia
CVT, LVT, RVT, or VTS preferred
Work experience in a fast-paced, multi-veterinarian hospital, emergency/referral practice or hospital

TECHNICAL ABILITIES AND SKILLS**

Knowledge of normal patient vitals for awake, sedated, and anesthetized patients
Accuracy in calculating and delivering anesthetic agents, fluids, and CRIs
Comprehensive understanding and experience with anesthetic monitoring is required
Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment and commitment to building relationships with colleagues, clients, and community is required
Knowledge and care with equipment maintenance, cleaning, sterility, and troubleshooting; willingness to read equipment manuals and consult with vendors if repair/upgrades needed
Knowledge of appropriate aseptic technique and surgical procedures
Understanding of estimates for different surgical procedures
Excellent communication and organizational skills are required, and the ability to deliver exceptional client service is expected
Must be able to regularly lift up to 50 pounds (work requires lifting, carrying, and restraining animals-with assistance from other staff for animals weighing over 50 pounds)

Compensation and Benefits: Compensation is based on experience and skill level.
