University Settlement partners with 40,000 New Yorkers on the Lower East Side and in Brooklyn every year to build on their strengths as they achieve healthy, stable, and remarkable lives. Established in 1886 as the first Settlement House in the United States, we bring the values of that movement into the 21st century by meeting New Yorkers where they live, listening deeply to all perspectives, engaging with every individual holistically, and creating space for people to organize. Joining together with our neighbors to advocate for justice and equality, we help build community strength.
We work with New Yorkers of all ages. We infuse a commitment to civic engagement, equity, and communal action into each of our programs, which include early childhood education, mental health and wellness, benefits assistance and eviction prevention, adult literacy and education, healthy aging, community and recreation centers, performing and visual arts, and youth development.

The Grants and Claims Manager will oversee the day-to-day supervision of the grants accounting team while maintaining and improving processes and procedures related to grants management.

Responsibilities:

Supervise grants accounting staff; monitor and ensure grant fiscal deliverables are met within the deadlines set by donors and ensure timely submission of periodic claims and funder reports.
Review and process internal and external reports, including Director's Reports and claims to government agencies and private funders.
Liaise with program managers, development and fiscal staff on the financial management of grants and proposals.
Establish and update grants management processes and controls as needed to ensure compliance with budgetary best practices and donor restrictions.
Receive and review grant agreements for terms and conditions, donor-imposed restrictions, and deliverable/reporting dates.
Manage, update, and maintain organization of all grant documents (e.g., narratives, financials, agreements, amendments, and reports)
Use and improve established grants management process and protocols.
Become a power user of lntacct, including training and assigning rights to staff.
Oversee and assist with contract and agency-wide audits.
Implement systems for and oversee processes related to time and effort reporting.
Assist in the preparation of agency-wide and program specific allocations.
Execute other assignments as requested by management.

Qualification:

Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field
Must have a minimum of 8 years of progressive grants management and accounting experience.
At least 3 years' experience supervising staff preferred.
Comprehensive knowledge of GAAP, Federal, State & City regulations and nonprofit accounting requirements
Self -directed and motivated, able to manage multiple and complex assignments and meet deadlines.
Must be flexible and willing to adjust work schedule as necessary.
Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills; able to multi-task, strong follow through skills and detail oriented.
Strong knowledge of accounting software programs (lntacct experience preferred)
Must have experience with City and Federal websites such as PASSPort, HHS Accelerator, etc.
Advanced Excel skills.

Work Schedule: Full time, Hybrid, Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, 35 hours a week.
