You are a well-rounded finance leader whose experience includes high-growth, product-based companies. You're a strategic and analytical thinker who can identify solutions to issues but also have the implementation skills to bring these solutions to fruition by working across the organization, collaborating with others, and ensuring execution through direct, hands-on involvement in any required change efforts. You have technical finance and accounting skills and can manage across all financial/accounting areas, including all aspects of general accounting, A/R, A/P, SOX, Treasury, Tax, ERP/financial systems, pre and post-IPO experience, external and internal financial reporting, and offshore shared services. You also demonstrated the ability to develop and manage a team of accounting professionals. Experience in building organizational capabilities and skills is critical. You should have proven experience in developing and managing a team of finance professionals capable of adapting and growing with the company.
The Task At Hand:
The Controller will spearhead the finance, accounting, and treasury areas, with a significant focus on managing and optimizing financial operations. This high-impact position entails working with the CFO to lead the company through strategic financial milestones, including an IPO, while nurturing a culture of accountability, efficiency, and growth. The individual will be responsible for overseeing the company's accounting operations, technical financial reporting, and internal controls to ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements. This individual will lead a team of accounting professionals and collaborate closely with cross-functional partners to support business objectives and drive process improvements. This individual will play a key role in developing and implementing accounting policies and procedures, managing the monthly public SEC close process, and coordinating with internal and external auditors.
In This Role, You Will Do:
o Financial Reporting: Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
o Accounting Operations: Oversee the day-to-day accounting functions of the company, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll
o Budgeting and Forecasting: Collaborate with other departments to develop annual budgets and financial forecasts, providing financial analysis and insights to support decision-making. Monitor actual financial performance against budgeted targets and identify variances to inform corrective actions and strategic planning
o Policy Development and Implementation: Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures to ensure consistency, transparency, and compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements
o Tax Compliance: Ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations by overseeing the preparation and filing of tax returns, coordinating with external tax advisors, and implementing tax planning strategies to optimize the company's tax position. This includes staying updated on changes in tax legislation and advising management on their implications for the company
o Audit Management: Manage the annual external audit process, liaising with external auditors, providing necessary documentation and explanations, and addressing audit findings. Oversee the implementation of audit recommendations to strengthen internal controls and improve financial reporting processes
o Internal Controls: Work with the CFO to establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets, ensure the accuracy of financial records, and comply with regulatory requirements such as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX). This involves developing control procedures, conducting risk assessments, and monitoring control effectiveness to prevent fraud and errors in financial reporting
o Team Leadership and Development: Lead and develop a team of accounting professionals, providing guidance, training, and mentorship to ensure their effectiveness and professional growth. You foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement within the accounting department
o Regulatory Filings: Play a key role in the preparation of critical public financial documents to support the IPO process, including working with bankers and supporting the production of investor materials and SEC filings (e.g. S-1). Ensure timely and accurate filing of regulatory reports and forms required by regulatory authorities
o Disclosure Management: Supervise the preparation of footnotes and disclosures accompanying financial statements. These disclosures provide additional context and transparency regarding significant accounting policies, estimates, risks, and other pertinent information for stakeholders
o Financial Analysis: Provide financial analysis and insights to support management decision-making. This includes financial performance analysis, variance and trend analysis, scenario modeling to assess performance, identification and evaluation of cost savings opportunities and performance, driving profitability, and risk mitigation
In This Role, You’ll Bring With You:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting, MBA Preferred
- CPA Required
- 8-10 years accounting experience in an E-Commerce and Manufacturing environments
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in SEC reporting and technical accounting, preferably in a publicly traded company or public accounting firm
- Controller/Executive level finance experience helping to lead an organization through time-sensitive and stressful initiatives such as acquisitions, divestitures, and financings/IPOs
- Experience in manufacturing and cost accounting is a must. CPG Experience is preferred
- Strong knowledge of SEC regulations, IPO processes, and experience interfacing with external auditors
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, with a track record of building and developing high-performing teams
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and integrity in financial reporting
- Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., SAGE, Oracle, NetSuite)
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively
- Continuous learner with a passion for driving process improvements and implementing best practices
- Previous exposure to cross-functional work between Sustainability and Finance preferred
- Up to 10% travel required: Although this role is a remote work-from-home position, we “Farmers” do meet as a company and/or as a department a few times a year. Anticipate possible travel up to a few times each quarter

Compensation:
- The anticipated salary range for this position is $160,000 to $230,000. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a few factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Certain positions are eligible for additional forms of compensation such as bonuses, stipends, equity, and role-specific perks.
